Smile! You’re on Meteor Shower Camera!
On Tuesday 15th November, Dr Ashley King came to William Perkin to talk to the students about the meteor project. The evening kicked off with Dr King giving a scientific seminar on meteor observance in the UK, and Europe using cameras.
This was followed by a workshop on the camera set up at William Perkin. He showed students the camera, its housing, and the proposed location on the 3rd floor roof. Dr King also showed the students the software that they would be using to produce the subsequent analysis and evaluation aspects of their poster and talk.
The students were engaged, and asked interesting questions. It’s great to have a knowledgeable expert like Dr King working alongside the Elite Scientists.
Then, on Wednesday 30th November, Dr Ashley King and Helena Bates returned to set up the Meteor Shower camera on the roof of the school.
The camera is currently set to come on at 5.00pm and go off at 5.00am, It should now run happily without any interference.
The skies were clear that night, and we saw our first meteor!
Thanks to Mr Morris our Facilities Manager for going out on the roof with Dr King, to Mr Palamarchuk for setting up the wiring for the camera, Mr Kelly and Mr Firica, for sorting out IT issues. A great team effort!
