- Science Update
Over the last few weeks, the Elite scientists have been working hard on their project. They have been creating tables, to put in their gas and particulate data, so that it will be fit for purpose for their scientific poster. Elliot Benson, from10W, came to teach the group how to work with Google Sheets and helped send a link to all the students, so that they could simultaneously work on the same spreadsheet. It was so nice to see an Elite Scientist Alumni, helping out the younger group. Talking of Elliot, he and Anujan SRIBAVANANTHAN, Hasnain ALIBHAI, Len WARRELL, Elliot Benson, and Vinu NATHAN have wone the Crest Silver Award! Well done to all of you.
NB, all Elite Scientist Alumni, can all apply for their Silver Crest award. You just need to meet up with your Alumni Group, and work on it together. Let Ms Kapila know if you need any assistance. Do feel free to speak to any of the Year 10 students mentioned here.
Dr Holloway came in on the 29th of January, to help the students think about the different groups that are involved in contributing and reducing pollution. The students worked in groups to come up with a summary of how the different groups produce and deal with pollution in the UK. It was a good exercise to help the students realise the source and solutions to pollution. The activity also help the students to hone their presentation skills in anticipation of presenting at Imperial College in May 2019 and The IRIS (Institute for Research in Schools) Students Science Conference 2019, in July, also helps them with their summarising skills. Over the coming weeks the students will continue to enter their data into their spreadsheets, and carry out the lung function test‘s.
We would like to thank the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasier’s, who have awarded William Perkin Church of England High School Elite Scientist group, £1000 towards this project.Back to the top
