Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize 2017
The William Perkin Elite Scientists have been reading 6 shortlisted books for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize 2017.
The aim was to select the winning book which was “The Awesome Body Book” by Adam Frost. Here are the 6 titles:
Schools all over the country have been reading the shortlisted books, and it’s the students that have the final say! Some quotes the Elite Scientists have come up with are as follows:
100 Things to know about space (Authors: Alex Frith, Alice James and Jerome Martin, illustrated by Shaw Neilsen and Federico Mariani)
Vismika: “Good facts, eye catching, draws on one point, interesting for kids”
Abir: "It has a bit of humour, really good illustrations to describe what they are explaining”
The Awesome Body Book (Author: Adam Frost)
Hasti: “Very interesting. Teaches you many facts about your body”.
Saphron: “It allowed me to understand my body better”.
The winning author receives £10,000. Schools are encouraged to make a video based on the judging process, and the winning students may get to win £500 in book tokens between them. Our students came up with the idea to creatively film a discussion on all the books read. Hopefully our students will win!
Students at William Perkin will eventually be able to read these books for themselves, as the Royal Society has given these books to us to put in our library.
See last year’s montage here, it features last year’s Elite Scientists (2015-16 cohort):
A big Thank-you to Mr Kochhar who helped with the filming and also put the video together!!
