Founders Day 2017
Careering Through Space!
'Careering Through Space!' was the title of Dame Jocelyn Bell-Burnell’s talk she delivered on Founders Day on Friday 12th May 2017 to our Year 9 and 10 students. She talked about how she discovered Pulsar as a PhD student - wonderful stuff! What was extra special, was that she also officially opened her lab as we named one of the school science labs after her.
Colin Stuart from The Astronomical Society, gave a talk to the Year 8 and 9 students as to whether we were alone in the universe or not, very thought provoking indeed.
There were over 30 scientific personnel in, from around 18 organisations such as West London Astronomical Society, Institute of Physics, Natural History Museum and Imperial College of the University of London, running numerous workshops throughout our school to enrich the lives of the students, bringing science alive in a hands-on way.
Workshops included observance of the sun, through solar telescopes, a mobile planetarium, and analysis of meteorite samples. We are very grateful to all the William Perkin staff and guests that came to support the event.
Lastly, we are grateful to Mr Miall, Head of Science, who worked feverishly for weeks putting the whole event together! Thank You!
