Did you say Faecal Transplant?!!

I am afraid it is true, that is what Dr Gavin Bewick talked about when he came to give a talk to the year 8s on Monday 10 June (well, one of the things anyway!). Dr Bewick talked about the effect of healthy gut Biomes on the prevention of Diabetes and Obesity. It was a brilliant talk, that was informative, interesting and current. If you like fermented food like yogurt and Sauerkraut, then these types of foods can lead to a healthy gut biome, full of varied “good” bacteria, which are believed to prevent obesity and subsequently Type II Diabetes. Of course, everyone likes a short cut, and the short cut is to have a faecal transplant in through the nose into your gut! (see the picture). Well I never! I ought get myself one of those!

As you can expect we got a lot of questions from our year 8s about poo transplants. I think that’s all they can remember (I hope not!

Summary of Dr Gavin Bewick’s Biography:
